However, if you have decided to move on from Telegram for any reason and wish to delete your account, it’s crucial to do it correctly. - The data export feature is currently only available on the Telegram Desktop version. So you would need to open your desktop app first
- From there, go to 'Settings' and select 'Advanced'.
- Then choose 'Export Telegram Data' and select the data you want to export. You can choose chats, files, photos, and more.
- Click 'Export' to save the data to your computer.
With Telegram it is not so easy to deactivate your just on the spot and you would have to work your way towards it.
- Go to the Telegram Deactivation Page https://my.telegram.org/auth and log in with your phone number.
- Enter the Confirmation Code and find 'Delete Account' or a similar option. Telegram might ask why you're leaving and you can provide feedback if you want.
- Confirm your account suspension and click on the button to confirm that you want to delete your account.
Deleting your Telegram account from your phone requires you to visit the web-based deactivation page, as the in-app deletion feature is not available. But from mobile, you can use a termination option, meaning that your account will be deleted automatically after a certain period of time. So, to deactivate your account from the mobile app:
- Open the app and go to ‘Settings’
- Tap the “Privacy and Security” option and scroll down to the “Delete my account” section
- There you will see the time period after which you want to deactivate the account: 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, or 12 months. Choose the option you like, and after the designated time your account will be terminated.
Note: Once you delete your Telegram account, all your messages, contacts, and groups will be removed. This action is irreversible. Make sure you've backed up all essential data and are sure about your decision before proceeding.
