How to Make a Group Chat on Snapchat

Snapchat, since its inception, has transformed the way we communicate, placing a unique emphasis on fleeting moments and visual storytelling. One of its engaging features is the group chat function, which allows multiple friends to converse in one shared space. Here's how to make a group chat on Snapchat.
Table of Contents
Snapchat is a multimedia messaging app distinguished by its emphasis on short-lived content. Users send photos and videos, known as "Snaps," that are viewable for only a few seconds before disappearing forever. The app also offers Stories—a series of Snaps that last 24 hours — as well as a myriad of filters, Bitmoji integrations, and other playful features, to enrich the user experience.
To make a group on Snapchat, all you need to do is open the Snapchat app and click on the chat icon located in the bottom left corner of the screen. Then tap the speech bubble icon in the top right corner, which will open your 'Friends' list. As you tap on the names of friends you want to add to the group, a blue checkmark will appear next to their names. After you've selected all desired participants, tap the "Chat with Group" button.
By default, Snapchat will give your group chat a combined name based on participants, but you can customize this by clicking on the group name at the top of the chat.
Group chats on Snapchat are not just about sending messages; there's a whole range of activities you can engage in. For instance, just like in individual chats, you can send temporary photos and videos or initiate group voice or video calls by pressing the respective icons within the group chat. This can be an engaging way to connect with multiple friends simultaneously.
Anyone in the group can contribute to a shared Group Story, which functions similarly to personal Stories but is viewable only by group members. If you want to address a specific member, type "@" followed by their username. They'll receive a notification that they've been mentioned. You also can create stickers specific to your group, adding a personalized touch to your conversations. And if you are bored, for example, you can leave the group chat whenever you wish.
Managing groups on Snapchat is relatively straightforward, offering a set of tools to enhance your group chat experience.
Renaming the Group
Once inside the group chat, tap on the group name or the group icon at the top of the screen. You'll see an option to change the group's name. Click on it and enter your desired name.
Adding New Members
Unfortunately, Snapchat doesn't allow adding new members to an already existing group. You would have to create a new group if you wish to include different or additional members.
Customize Group Chat Settings
Inside the group chat, tap the group icon at the top. Here, you can choose to enable or disable notifications for the group chat or leave the group chat entirely.
Deleting a Group
Snapchat groups can't be deleted per se, but they become inactive when all members leave. If you want to close a group, all participants need to leave. Also, keep in mind that messages in the group will be deleted after 24 hours, according to Snapchat's default settings, but users can still save messages manually.
Snapchat's group chat feature is more than just a space for conversation. It's a dynamic space that captures the essence of what Snapchat is all about interactive, fun, and transient communication. Whether you're catching up with friends or planning an event, Snapchat groups enhance the way we connect in the digital age.
